Mind-Body Communication in Hypnosis (The Seminars, Workshops, and Lectures of Milton H. Erickson, Vol 3/Book & cAssette)
Published in Hardcover by Irvington Pub (February, 1992)
Authors: Milton H. Erickson, Margaret O. Ryan, and Ernest Lawrence Rossi
Average review score:

Ericksonian Hypnosis
The book explores some of Erickson's experiences with creating changes in the body through hypnosis, as in the following story:

"A normal 18-year-old girl was very distressed over the fact that she had not shown any evidence of breast development.

Her father was a physician, and at the age of 12 he had loaded her up with every kind of hormone possible. Yet there was no breast development of any sort; still none by 13, or 14, or 15. He finally quit the treatments and just gave up hope.

By the age of 18, the girl was making an extremely shizoid adjustment, withdrawing completely. She had an extremely disagreeable mother and she just hated her mother thoroughly.

So her doctor-father sent her to Erickson, asking him, "What can you do to keep my daughter from becoming schizophrenic?"

Well, it took Erickson about an hour to get the girl to tell him herself that she had no breast development whatsoever. She did agree, however, to go into a trance, and so he spent a couple more hours putting her into a deep trance very cautiously, very gently, very indirectly.

Then while she was in a deep trance state he explained to her how ignorant a man is about what a breast feels like; that he can't have any idea of how it feels to grow a breast; that he can't know what a breast feels like during a menstrual period; that he cannot really know what a woman's nipple feels like during menstruation.

And he spent a good deal of time presenting that sort of idea to her very repetitiously.

Next he explained in a similarly repetitious manner that since she was a girl, somehow or other she must have the right nerves, the right blood vessels with which to grow breasts.

He told her that when she was alone in the privacy of her room - she would someway, somehow, get a tremendous surging feeling in the breast area; and suddenly, somehow, her rudimentary nipples would feel warm, and she would have the feeling that something was happening.

He told her very honestly that he didn't know what that feeling was, but that she could find out; and that she could get that tremendous surging feeling, that growing feeling or whatever it was, and then drift off to sleep very comfortably.

Erickson saw the girl once a week for two months, at which time she had very well developed breasts."

Great Story, Great Animation
The Mirror is a wonderful story for people of all ages. It includes great animation, an awesome story line and funny characters. The story shows us what jealsoy can sometimes do to us. The Foos and the Moos are the best characters ever! They are cute, funny and very cool. But one of the books best qualities is the extraordinary computer animation. It is so full of vibrant colors and wonderful pictures that it brings the story to life. This was an awesome story!

Mom, They're Teasing Me: Helping Your Child Solve Social Problems

Authors: Michael Thompson, Lawrence J. Cohen, and Catherine O'Neill Grace

Answers so many questions a parent has
I read this book over the weekend and have already sent out a mass email to parents I know telling them to read this book! This book succinctly and honestly answers questions that I'm always hearing on the "parent circuit." Not only about about teasing, but about all social skills, popularity, being ostracized, girls worrying they are fat-- you name it, it is probably addressed in this book. And the authors do a wonderful job of letting you know when you are worrying too much, or too little about an issue. A must read!

Moonwind
Published in Paperback by HarperTrophy (September, 1987)
Author: Louise Lawrence
Average review score:

An eerie and enthralling book...
reading (and re-reading) this book was always a thrill growing up, and I rather think it still would be even after all these years. The plot as I remember it has something to do with 2 kids from very different home backgrounds winning a contest that nets them a trip to a scientific compound on the moon. There they have some encounters with an alien who has been stranded there for a long, long time, all alone. Like most of Lawrence's books this has a certain darkness to it, but it was really moving, and not at all the typical kids-go-into-space-and-save-the-day sci-fi schlock.

More Classic Old House Plans: Authentic Designs for Colonial and Victorian Homes (Old House Book)
Published in Paperback by Main Street Publishing (October, 1990)
Author: Lawrence Grow
Average review score:

Excellent Source Book
If you're looking for house plans for an old house or are remodeling an old house, start here. These are plans for real houses the way they actually were built, not the way somebody thinks people want them built today. It's a great book, with elevations and floor plans complete with measurements. There are also a lot of other schematics, for windows, doors, stairs, paneling, wainscotting, etc.

Morocco: Crossroads of Time (Musical Expeditions)
Published in Hardcover by Ellipsis Arts... (June, 1995)
Authors: Randall Barnwell, Bill Lawrence, and Musical Expeditions
Average review score:

A Multimedia Introduction to Moroccan Culture
I was fortunate to visit Morocco. I learned much despite being ill-prepared. Travel books and itineraries tell One what (s)he will see, but not what to observe.

This is an excellent introduction to Moroccan culture. The music CD's twelve selections are a representative sampler. The accompanying 64-page hardbound book discusses each selection in detail. The book also includes beautiful color photos and translations of Moroccan lyrics and poetry. The authors discuss Moroccan history, geography, literature, and Islamic life within Morocco. A discography and bibliography suggest additional musical and textual Moroccan references. There even is a recipe for Mint Tea, the cornerstone of Moroccan hospitality!

I recommend this music CD and book to anyone interested in Morocco, but *especially* to those preparing for their first visit.
